Fire dampers are the most important part within HVAC system ductwork, these dampers prevent the spread of fire and smoke. Inspection, test, preventive maintenance of the fire systems and equipment installed in a building is crucial to maintain safety levels due to Australian standards.
Why is this necessary?
Fire damper inspections may be applied to fire systems and equipment regardless of building age. The systems have to perform at least at the minimum level which is stated in the Australian standards. The inspection may also be used to develop specific routine service requirements for fire systems or equipment that are part of an alternative solution designed to satisfy the performance requirements of the regulations.
All dampers must be inspected once every five years to prevent failure (environmental, material or usage). We provide visual evidence of the damper being present, the day the inspection took place and that any necessary rectifications have been executed, when and where applicable. Good routine for the building owners is to inspect 20% of the fire dampers annually so that all dampers have been inspected by the end of the fifth year (which is 20% per year as per Australian standard).
