Fire Dampers (FD) are thermally activated devices that operate to restrict the passage of fire or products of combustion through a duct or openings, such as fire-resistance rated walls & floors, for the passage of air.
Fire Damper Inspection needs to comply with the AS 1682.2:2015. The following sections of the mentioned Standard are very useful during the physical inspection & mechanical inspection (only for motorised FD):
* AS 1682.2:2015 Appendix A -The Performance Criteria
* AS 1682.2:2015 Appendix A – Performance Criteria for Smoke Damper Installations
*AS 1682.2:2015 Appendix C – Fire Damper Sleeve Connection and Installation with Breakaway Joints.
* AS 1682.2:2015 Appendix F – Guide to Sizing of Penetrations in fire Resistant Structures
Why is this necessary?
AS recommends that 20% of all fire dampers in a building should be checked each year, therefore, all have been covered by the end of the fifth year.
Also, all fire damper maintenance inspections required records since these records are considered part of the Essential Fire Safety Measures as required by
AS/NZS1668.1:2015 and AS 1682.2: 2015
We provide the Fire Damper Installation Checklist that is based on AS 1682.2:2015 Appendix E – Example of a Fire Damper Installation Check Sheet.
It is important to highlight that after the fire damper inspection, there would be some certified fire dampers and others that corrective actions need to be undertaken before they would be certified.
